Another video shoot for the Gastown Project, this time with community developer and former councillor Jim Green. Green, a social activist and longtime champion of the Downtown Eastside, has lived in the Gastown area for 39 years. As councillor, he spearheaded the redevelopment of the Woodward’s project, mandating that there be social housing included. He is modest about the role he played, always quick to add that there were many others involved, but he has tons of photos, posters, drawings and various Woodward’s-related stuff on display throughout his home (in the Woodward’s building). You can tell that he’s invested and passionate about it.
Also, he wears bad-ass fedoras.
Friend and colleague Erin Loxam and I have pledged to take and upload one photo every day for all of 2011. See how she’s doing here.
