This is the West Vancouver home where Mumtaz Ladha, 55, is accused of having forced a 21-year-old African woman to work in demeaning and slave-like conditions for one year. Police say Ladha brought her over from Africa on the promise that she would get her a work visa and a job at a Vancouver-area hair salon. Instead, the young girl was allegedly forced to work 18 hours a day, seven days a week, doing humiliating chores like hand-washing everyone’s underwear, hand-washing their cars and even hand-washing the cars of guests who came over. Police said she was also underfed, and was often only fed table scraps.
