VANCOUVER — B.C. singer and songwriter Nelly Furtado will donate $1 million she received for performing for the family of Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi.
The Victoria-born songstress made the announcement via her Twitter page on Monday morning.
“In 2007, I received 1million$ from the Qaddafi clan to perform a 45 min. Show for guests at a hotel in Italy. I am going to donate the $,” she wrote.
Furtado is one of several entertainers who have come under fire recently after reports from the New York Times and a WikiLeaks document released earlier this month revealed they had received extravagant sums to perform for the dictator’s family.
The New York Times reported Mariah Carey, Beyonce and Usher had also received handsome sums to perform at lavish parties held by Gadhafi’s sons on the Caribbean island of St. Barts.
